About

An independent newsroom for Harbor City.

Founded by reporters, owned by nobody else, and paid for by the people who read it.

We cover City Hall, the port, the schools and the weekend, with the time it takes to get the story right. We publish every day, send a newsletter every weekday morning and record a podcast every Friday.

There is no paywall on breaking news, public safety or anything the city needs to know right now. Everything else is free for three stories a month and unlimited for members, and membership is what keeps the lights on.

How we work

Corrections. When we get something wrong we say so at the top of the story, with the date. Sources. We name them unless there is a real risk to the person. AI. We use AI tools for research, headlines and copy editing. Every published word is read and signed off by a human editor. Money. Members and sponsors fund the newsroom; neither sees a story before it runs.
